Marcia Harmon Rosenbusch
(Ph.D.,
Iowa State University) is the Director of the National
K-12 Foreign Language Resource Center at Iowa State University.
Dr. Rosenbusch directs the elementary school foreign language
teacher preparation program at ISU through a joint appointment
in the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction and World Languages
and Cultures. In 1996 she received the Florence Steiner Award
for Leadership in Foreign Language Education, and in 2001, the
Anthony Papalia Award for Excellence in Teacher Education.

Eileen Lorenz is the Project Director
of the K-5 Chinese FLES Project at the Center
for Applied Linguistics in Washington
DC. Eileen has served as an elementary school principal, an elementary
foreign language immersion specialist, and a French immersion classroom
teacher. Among her duties she has had major responsibilities in
the development and implementation of a Chinese immersion program.
Eileen has served as president of the National
Network for Early Language Learning (NNELL) and as the advocacy
chair. She has a BA in French with a minor in Education and Spanish,
and a Masters of Education in Human Resource Development with a
specialty in adult learning.

Shuhan C. Wang (Ph.D.,
University of Pennsylvania) is Executive Director for Chinese
Language Initiatives at the Asia Society, whose mission is to expand and
strengthen the Chinese language field in the United States. Shuhan
was the supervisor for World Languages and International Education
for the State of Delaware and directed the Chinese Teachers Summer
Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. She is involved in
numerous national and international projects and has published many
articles in journals and books. She is leading an international
effort in developing Flying with Chinese, a Chinese language textbook
series for K-6 learners.

Wei-ling Wu (Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania)
has taught Mandarin to American students in grades 6–12 for
twenty years. Since 1997, she has worked with K-5 Chinese teachers
in developing effective teaching techniques. She is a well-known
teacher trainer in Chinese language instruction and a frequent speaker
at conferences and workshops. She is the lead author of a series
of K-12 Chinese textbooks: Chinese for Youth, Everyday Chinese
for Children, My Chinese Book. She was also one of the six-member
task force that developed the NFLC Guide for the Basic Chinese
Language Program.

Nancy Rhodes has extensive
experience in the field of K-12 foreign language education and works
with colleagues nationally to encourage long-sequence language programs
that promote high levels of proficiency. At the Center
for Applied Linguistics she is involved in language research, test development,
and teacher training, with a special focus on the elementary school
level. She is a founding member of the National
Network for Early Language Learning, and served as its first Executive Secretary.

Lynn Thompson is a Research
Associate in the Foreign Language Education Division and Coordinator
of services for foreign language programs at the Center
for Applied Linguistics. She has over 20 years of
K-12 foreign language test development experience and 15 years as a teacher
trainer and workshop facilitator.

Lupe Hernández-Silva, Administrative
Assistant for the Foreign Language Education Division at the Center
for Applied Linguistics, is the Program Assistant for the Chinese
FLES Project. She has worked for over 20 years with organizations
such as the National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education, Inter-America
Research Associates, and the Center for Applied Linguistics.

Mack Shelley (Ph.D.,
University of Wisconsin-Madison) is University Professor of Statistics,
Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, and Political Science
at Iowa State University. From 2003-2007, he served as Director
of the Research Institute for Studies in Education (http://www.rise.hs.iastate.edu/)
at Iowa State University. He has extensive experience in research
design, data analysis, and evaluation, and has served as Principal
Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, and Consultant on a wide
array of grants and contracts with federal, state, and local agencies,
and foundations.

Claudia Navarro-Villarroel is a PhD
student co-majoring in Statistics and Education (Research and Evaluation).
She received her Masters Degree in Statistics at the Universidad
de Valparaíso, Chile (2001). She has been working since 1994
for the Department of Statistics in the Universidad de Valparaíso.
She worked as a graduate research assistant at the Research Institute
for Studies in Education –RISE– in Iowa State University –ISU– (2006-2007).
Currently, she is in charge of the experimental design, statistical
data analysis, and evaluation of projects as a graduate research
assistant at the K-12 National Foreign Language Research Center –K-12
NFLRC– in ISU.

Vicki Gray is the Administrative
Assistant for the National K-12 Foreign Language Resource Center. She
has worked at Iowa State University for 18 years and has been with
the NFLRC since 2003. Vicki is actively involved in supporting
the many aspects of the TWI project.

Jacob E. Larsen holds M.A. degrees
in English Language and Literature (University of Southern Denmark)
and Applied Linguistics (Ohio University). In the area of English
language teaching he has experience with the development of advanced
level courses, supervision of placement test creation, and teaching
of general and specific English courses to students of all ages
and levels. He is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Curriculum
and Instructional Technology at Iowa State University where he
is a research assistant in the National Foreign Language Research
Center (NFLRC) at ISU and the webmaster of the NFLRC and National
Network for Early Language Learning (NNELL) homepages.
