Programs listed here as exemplary were asked to provide evidence that demonstrated they complied with the criteria (see right column) for which they were nominated. Such evidence included a rationale for each identified criterion and related documentation such as test scores, testimony, or documents. This information is now available on this site.

  Selection Criteria  
Criteria for nominating a program as exemplary were identified in two ways: (1) through data on ideal professional practices collected from the profession on the NVA 2002-2003 national foreign language survey and (2) through a review of the professional literature. Additional criteria in which the program is exemplary also may be proposed by the nominator.
