Mentoring and Leadership for K-12 Chinese Teachers
National K-12 Foreign Language Resource Center
Iowa State University |
| When: |
Friday June 20 – Monday June 30, 2008 |
| Where: |
National K-12 Foreign Language Resource Center
Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa |
| Who: |
Practicing K-12 Chinese teachers with strong leadership potential |
| Why: |
The major goal of this institute is to equip and empower Chinese K-12 teachers to assume expanding leadership roles in their districts and states as a first step toward building a cadre of leaders who can exert influence at the regional and national levels. |
| How: |
At the summer institute, participants will develop, refine, and synthesize their professional knowledge, skills, and expertise by collaborating to design technology-infused, classroom teaching materials that reflect the best thinking of the profession. Following the summer institute, participants will (a) facilitate learning in their own classrooms through pedagogically sound uses of these materials; (b) use social technologies to reflect on their impact of these instructional approaches and materials and to exchange ideas and information with their institute colleagues and leaders; (c) employ the materials they have developed in conjunction with social technologies and principles of mentoring and leadership, to initiate, implement, and/or sustain change in their local context(s); and (d) expand their professional networks by using social technologies to disseminate materials to colleagues outside their local contexts, engage colleagues in professional conversations, and give professional presentations at state conferences as first steps toward ultimately impacting the regional and national levels. |
