| In May of 2003, Dr. Frank Medley retired
after a teaching career spanning 40 years. Having majored
in Spanish literature at the Bachelor’s and Masters
level, he earned his Ph.D. in Foreign Language Education
at Purdue University. Frank Medley's doctoral research
was in second-language reading instruction and involved
a quantitative investigation of the effect that affixes
have on the recognition of vocabulary. He was among the
first group of methods instructors to be trained as Oral
Proficiency interviewers, and as trainers of interviewers.
He is one of the authors of the National Standards in
Spanish, and has also been involved with New Visions since
its inception. Throughout his career, Dr. Medley has published
consistently, and has more recently conducted numerous
sessions on professional development at regional and national
meetings. |
Dr. Robert M. Terry is Professor of French
at the University of Richmond. He served as President
of ACTFL in 1994, was a member of the ACTFL Executive
Council (1983-1986) and was the SCOLT representative on
the ACTFL Executive Council (2000-2003). He was Chairman
of the Board of Directors of SCOLT (1992-1993). He has
been Editor of Dimensions (SCOLT), Associate Editor of
the ACTFL Foreign Language Education Series, and Consulting
Editor for the Northeast Conference Reports. He is currently
the Articles Editor for the NECTFL Review. Dr. Terry is
the recipient of the Robert J. Ludwig National Distinguished
Leadership Award and of the NECTFL Stephen A. Freeman
Award.
